English Standard Version (ESV) Free for Kindle!

As of this blog posting date Amazon is giving away the English Standard Version (ESV) for free for the kindle or computer software that reads the kindle format! This is my pulpit Bible and favorite English translation. (The New American Standard Bible—NASB—comes second.)

To download the ESV for kindle click here.

Amazon is also offering the Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB) for free. I would compare it to the New International Version (NIV) in "feel." Not my favorite translational philosophy by any means but free is free.

Just an Old Sinner Saved by Grace?

Can a person be (or remain) a real Christian while living in willful sin? Many believe a person can. W. T. Purkiser wrote a small work that Amazon is offering currently as a free kindle ebook. It's called Security: The False and the True. Click here to get it. I don't know how long this free offer will last.

The Digital American Standard Version (DASV)

Yesterday I ran across a fascinating project by Dr. Ted Hildebrandt, Professor of Biblical Studies and Greek at Gordon College. He took the (now) public domain American Standard Version of 1901 and modernized the language. Hildebrandt copyrighted his new translation only so another couldn't come along and steal his work but he has released the complete Bible over the internet for free use.

In the few places I've looked I agree with the translation philosophy; Hildebrandt apparently hasn't made it gender neutral (one big reason I love and preach from the ESV). It appears to be a solid update to a solid translation.

(By the way, I bought two programs on CD-ROM years ago, Hebrew and Greek tutorials, that Hildebrandt wrote. He is the one who taught me to sing the Hebrew alphabet to the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy!)
